Plan B gets an A

We haven’t seen Shoshana Sperling on a stage in a while, but she made up for that absence Friday night, January 16, with her show-stopping bit at Plan B: The After Baby Show, an all-female comedy show performed after Diane Flacks’s Bear With Me.

As her neurotic self-actualized persona, Saucy Gaucho, Sperling ended her set by exposing one breast and spraying out milk in a passive-aggressive message to her baby to let her get some sleep. Priceless, especially if you weren’t sitting in the front row.

The rest of the lineup was equally good. Teresa Pavlinek satirized stand-up comedy and frustrated singleton life via her character Jane Black; Katie Crown delivered some demented and inappropriate poems for children; Dawn Whitwell got good mileage out of her recent honeymoon with her new wife; and Kathleen Phillips closed out the show with a beautifully written bit about not wanting to give birth to an “asshole baby.”

The host was the only performer we can imagine who wouldn’t be intimidated (or upstaged) by such terrific talents – Elvira Kurt, in terrific form, as energetic and original as ever.
